Disney has confirmed that it will be producing the next Disney-produced film, Pirates of the Black Pearl.
The announcement comes after reports that Disney was considering a film adaptation of Stephen King’s bestselling novel, but the studio instead chose to produce the film adaptation as a series of mini-series and movies.
Disney and Warner Bros. Pictures were reportedly discussing a Pirates of Black Pearl film at the time of King’s death, but it was later dropped due to the ongoing legal wrangling.
Pirates premiered in theaters on July 18, 2016 and was picked up by Disney in 2019.
The film, starring Jason Momoa as the villainous Captain Jack Sparrow, was a major box office success, grossing $1.2 billion worldwide.
A second Pirates film, The Last Ship, was released in 2018 and is based on a book by Jack Kerouac, which has inspired the film.
