The UK is set to be the first country in the world to start administering a COV-19 shot to people after a $10bn US$15.8bn injection.
The injection will be done in the first two months of next year.
According to Bloomberg, the UK’s government will offer free vaccines to all adults aged 18 and over on the first of January, followed by free vaccines for children in December.
A total of 10 million doses of the vaccine are being distributed in the UK.
The government will also start vaccinating people aged 65 and over.
It will be the biggest vaccine trial to date in the US and Australia, with around 20 million doses distributed.
“It is not yet clear how many doses we will be administering to each individual in this trial, but we are targeting 10 million, so we expect to have at least 80,000 doses distributed,” said Dr. Jonathan Smith, the head of the National Vaccine Programme.
One million doses will be administered to pregnant women, as well as children aged 6 months and older.
More than 1,000 people have been vaccinated so far in the United States.
